Gimme a Break
</hdr>

By Michael Quinn

Their latest heavy-metal compilation bears the aromatic
title Break Like the Wind and includes such appallingly inane
lyrics as "We are the guests who have stayed too long."
Furthermore, they demanded that the CD be packaged in an
extra-long cardboard box so that environmentally aware listeners
would have a real reason to visit the local recycling center.
Oh, no, it looks like Spinal Tap is back in town. Rock parodists
Harry Shearer, Michael McKean and Christopher Guest, first heard
in Rob Reiner's 1984 mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap, are once
again perpetrating pop at its very worst, now aided and abetted
by such legit stars as Cher, Slash and Jeff Beck. Break Like the
Wind is also inspiring a Spinal Tap concert tour and a TV
special as part of what has surely become the most elaborate "In"
joke in music history.
